A Good Run For Stacy
Stacy describes winning AF6 as her best Kaamatan present.
Stracie Angie Anam tells DENNIS CHUA how winning Akademi Fantasia 6 was like a bountiful harvest.
WHEN Stracie (Stacy) Angie Anam received her trophy from no-nonsense principal, Ramli MS, at the grand finals of Akademi Fantasia 6 (AF6), she imagined another “terrifying tutor” of hers smiling.
Stacy, 18, imagined seeing none other than acerbic One In A Million (OIAM) judge Paul Moss, who ticked her off in OIAM Season 2 last year for being “not good enough”.
“I wish to thank Paul for his constructive criticisms. He’s honest and straight to the point, and it spurred me to work extra hard and excel,” she said.
Stacy made it to the Top 40 of OIAM2.
She also participated in TV3’s regional talent search Gang Starz’s first season last year, as the lead singer of Sabahan pop group E-Voke headed by her elder brother Camillus “Chak” Anam.
“Chak encouraged me to participate in contests to build up both experience and self-confidence. Having failed to win two major contests, I aimed for a third,” she said.
Stacy had always been a fan of Akademi Fantasia, particularly because the Astro production was more than just a singing contest.
“It has teachers and classes, and the contestants live together in a hostel like one big, happy family.
“This helps foster unity and enables me to get to know my fellow Malaysians in the West much better,” she said.
Stacy admits that she was “a little scared” to learn that Ramli was returning as Akademi Fantasia principal.
“Cikgu Ramli turned out to be a lot more nicer than I expected. While he is a no-nonsense teacher, he also has a great sense of humour and is very understanding,” she said.
Stacy also “had a great time” being taught by Ramli’s fellow AF6 academicians, Fatimah Abu Bakar, Syafizawati Sharif, Genervie Kam and Fauziah Nawi.
The fifth of six siblings, Stacy hails from Kampung Tuavon in Penampang, near Kota Kinabalu.
Her father, Anam Bayar, and her mother, Agnes Kallos, are talented singers, and Anam had even participated in Bintang RTM.
Stacy first sang at eight, and subsequently entertained guests at various Kadazandusun cultural festivals in her hometown, particularly during the Kaamatan (Harvest Festival) season. She also participated in various state-level singing contests.
Two years ago, Stacy became a club singer, performing with local bands such as Rimba in various restaurants and hotels around Kota Kinabalu.
A former student of Sekolah Menengah St Michael in Penampang, Stacy did not pursue her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination as a result of financial difficulties.
However, she hopes to sit for the examination later, as she wants to “complete a major educational milestone”.
Well-versed in Bahasa Malaysia, English and Kadazandusun, Stacy would love to write and compose music in all three languages one day.
“I’ve yet to master any musical instrument, but I’d love to excel in the piano or guitar, like my father and brother,” she said.
Stacy’s favourite singers include Jaclyn Victor, Karen Kong, Vince Chong, Azharina Azhar, Che’Nelle, Linda Nanuwil, Felix Agus and OIAM2 winner Ayu Damit.
Stacy describes winning AF6 as her “bountiful harvest” because the victory coincided with the Kaamatan season.
“It’s the best Kaamatan gift I’ve had, and one that I’ll cherish forever,” she said.
She dedicates her victory to previous AF finalists amongst her fellow Sumandaks (Kadazandusun girls) - Linda, Marsha Londoh, Velvet Aduk (her ex-schoolmate) and Candra Clement - for showing her that “anything is possible if you try hard”.
Stacy won RM25,000, an RM139,535 Peugeot 307 XS, an RM550,000 bungalow in A’ Famosa Resort, Malacca, an RM8,000 holiday to Italy, an RM10,000 holiday to New York and an RM1,199 Sony PlayStation.

Azharina Akui Sudah Bercerai
