Stars glam up the red carpet… or not

Avatar leading lady Zoe Saldana may be an azure alien in her latest sci-fi fantasy flick.

But she has nothing to feel blue about at its promotional tour.

Granted, it’s pretty hard for the US actress, who plays Na’vi warrior princess Neytiri in Avatar, to outdo her outstanding red carpet performance at the Star Trek premieres, where she wore jaw-dropping pieces by Prabal Gurung, Emilio Pucci and Azzedine Alaia and turned into a style iconovernight.

Still, 31-year-old Saldana proves once again that she’s light years ahead of the young Hollywood pack.

What a way to wrap up a fash-tastic year.

The big question now: Can she top herself in 2010?

1 I’m not a fan of mixing metals, but Saldana is solid gold in this hot little number in Los Angeles.

There’s just something about the eye-catching chain-embellished, white leather strapless Versace panel mini-dress and gold Brian Atwood Maniac pumps that scream ‘futuristic femme fatale’.

2 She found the perfect outfit for the Avatar world premiere in London – extra-terrestrial couture meets old Hollywood glamour.

She shimmied down the blue carpet in a textured, otherworldly silver Roland Mouret mermaid gown with structured shoulders and a long Neil Lane diamond necklace – and into every fashionista’s heart.

3 Red truly is her best colour.

Saldana flaunts her insanely long legs in sky-high black platforms and flirty scarlet pleated chiffon frock from Giambattista Valli at the Tokyo International Film Festival.

The braided hairstyle and gold Melinda Maria drop earrings add a charming touch.

4 This could be one of the rare times Saldana’s slipped up.

Her Andrew Gn get-up of white ruffle eyelet blouse, black satin skirt and oversized bow belt at the Berlin photo call has zero wow factor.

And no, those nude Sergio Rossi peep-toe platforms just don’t go. Ditto for the shorter, wavier tresses that make her look older and sleepier.

Time to scrap those separates and stick to the dresses.
