Fantasies come true with Carlsberg
Roller girls and free flow beer at Balaclava draw crowds

IT WAS a night of disco fever at Balaclava at Suntec last Wednesday evening.

Miss Rome Delos Reyes and her friend Miss Gemma Rosey were the centre of attraction with their Afros and short skirts

Temperatures soared when disco roller girls whizzed in to kick off the party. But guests kept cool by drinking at a free-flowing fountain of beer.

Does this sound like a fantasy?

Perhaps, but dreams turned reality for 200 guests who turned up for the Carlsberg Wish In A Bottle Preview Party.

‘I couldn’t believe it at first when I received the invitation,’ said Mr Andre Chen, 25, an advertising accounts executive.

‘It’s every guy’s fantasy – free-flowing beer fountain and disco roller girls. What more could a guy want?’

Mr Chen got his invitation by taking part in a contest to help decide on the wish that Carlsberg will grant one of their beer drinkers, Mike Teo.

Mike and two friends made a YouTube video asking for six wishes for the New Year.

In the spirit of the festive season, Carlsberg will grant one of Mike’s wishes. And the wish that will be chosen is based on the most number of votes by the public.

Guests to last Wednesday’s party were picked from those who had voted for one of Mike’s wishes via Facebook or by SMS.

Mr Chen had voted for the beer fountain.

But more was in store for Mr Chen that evening. He won The Perfect Draft contest, in which contestants compete to pour out the most number of perfect pints of beer in three minutes.

The perfect pint of beer should have foam the thickness of two fingers.

‘I was confident of winning because I had worked as a bar-tender before,’ said Mr Chen, chuckling.

He got eight pints, while fellow contestant, MrLau Hon Tat, 31, managed only two pints of beer, or rather, foam.

‘I would have won if the perfect pint had a foam thickness of five fingers,’ said Mr Lau, laughing,

ZIPPY ROLLER GIRLS

His girlfriend, Miss Marcella Sunanto Laut, 25, an accounts executive, wasn’t disappointed that Mr Lau did not win.

Neither was she jealous of him admiring the pretty disco roller girls zipping about.

‘I enjoyed looking at the roller girls. They added to the atmosphere. They looked cute in their white outfits, but I’m sure my boyfriend only has eyes for me,’ she said, with a big grin.

For taking part in the contest, Mr Lau and MrChen each won a T-shirt and VIP tickets to the Celebrate 2010 countdown party at the Marina Bay floating platform on New Year’s Eve.

True to the disco theme, two guests dressed up in their best ’70s outfits, complete with huge Afro wigs, short skirts and colourful leggings.

Stylist Gemma Rosey, 26, and friend, Miss Rome Delos Reyes, 28, a personal assistant, got a lot of attention when they strode in to Balaclava.

They were the only ones in costume.

Said Miss Rosey: ‘We didn’t expect to be the only ones dressed up. It was quite funny to turn up and find everyone else in office wear.

‘Some people even asked to have pictures taken with us.’

Added Miss Reyes, laughing: ‘Usually we dress up to party and we get guys talking to us.

‘This time, we put on Afro wigs, and we find out this is the secret to losing a guy in 60 seconds.

‘You put on a huge wig and you frighten all the men away.’

But both friends had a splashing good time.

‘We don’t usually drink beer because of the bitter taste. We found the taste of Carlsberg surprisingly light and palatable, so it was great that there was a free flow from the fountain,’ said Miss Rosey.

Want to party with Mike?

TO WOO the young and hip this festive season, Carlsberg picked one of its customers, 28-year-old Mike Teo, to be the face of its $1.5 million campaign.

Mike’s face and real identity will not be revealed until the countdown party hosted by Carlsberg at The Float @ Marina Bay on 31Dec.

In the meantime, you get the chance to help Mike get his wish.

He has six wishes to choose from: DiscoRoller Girls, GI Janes with beer soakers, a beer fountain, a beer foam party with his friends, a mechanical bull-ride or a bungee-jump.

You can help pick the wish Carlsberg will grant him by voting via Facebook or SMS.

Those interested can go to http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=ztlIni2PdR8 to view a clip titled ‘Will Carlsberg Host My New Year’s Party?’.
