Stars glam up the red carpet… or not

Husbands and wives who escape to an idyllic tropical island resort in Bora Bora to repair their marriages take centrestage in the movie Couples Retreat.

But even prettier scenery is happening off-screen, courtesy of a couple of Hollywood beauties.
Malin Akerman and Kristen Bell – who play the long-suffering spouses of Vince Vaughn and Jason Bateman’s characters respectively – continue their romance with the red carpet on the Couples Retreat promotional tour.
But whether it boils down to fashion choices or simply height, one blonde bombshell stands out more than the other.
US starlet Bell, 29, who stands at a petite 1.55m, probably learnt the valuable lesson of never posing next to a woman who’s a whole head taller.
Because towering over her is leggy, 1.71m-tall Swedish actress Akerman, 31. And frankly, who can hold a candle to the woman who brought Silk Spectre to life?
1 At the Los Angeles premiere, Akerman is a ray of sunshine with her golden tan and bouncy bright hair. She makes the unusual colour combination of this Thakoon ensemble – lemon yellow gathered bustier paired with a nude ruched skirt – work with cute accessories like silver-wired pearl Miriam Haskell cuff bracelets, pale pink Sergio Rossi clutch and grey suede heels from Aldo.
2 At the same event, feisty Bell takes a refreshingly feminine turn in this lovely baby blue chiffon cocktail dress by Marchesa with floral applique detail.
The satin Christian Louboutin peep-toes, Bulgari bling and romantic updo complete the princessy look. Alas, she loses points for the redundant fabric hanging by the side, so Akerman wins this match-up by a whisker.
3 In Hamburg, Germany, Akerman’s high-waisted Nicole Miller sheath dress with purple geometric-print bodice and electric blue Sergio Rossi suede platforms have the twin effect of elongating her legs – making Bell look even shorter.
Bell tries to hold her own in a lilac Rebecca Taylor silk tank dress with a bejewelled bodice, but your eyes go straight to Akerman again.
4 One remained mild, the other went wild – with totally opposite results.
At the London photocall, Akerman unleashes her inner sex kitten in this chic tiger print Temperley London satin dress.
Meanwhile, there’s trouble in paradise for Bell, whose lacy, white 3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2010 bell-sleeved frock looks like it was salvaged from her grandma’s wardrobe.
