TAIPEI: Taiwanese singer Elva Hsiao will be keeping mum for a while after doctors advised her not to speak unnecessarily for the next three weeks, to nurse an injured throat.
Hsiao had been practicing relentlessly for her upcoming performance on New Year’s eve, causing her to have throat hyperemia, a condition in which blood congests in the throat.
She said at a rehearsal on Tuesday that she will follow her doctor’s orders to not speak outside of interviews and rehearsals in order to preserve her singing voice for her upcoming sold-out concert.
The 30-year-old singer had recently been communicating with her crew by writing notes and gesturing instead.
Hsiao released her self-titled debut album in 1999 and went on to release nine more albums, including her latest work “Diamond Candy”.
She had also acted in films like “Infernal Affairs” and “The Butterfly Lovers” and appeared in commercials for numerous brands like Motorola and Pantene.
Hsiao squeezed into the list of top ten earning artistes in Taiwan of 2009 despite having just returned to the music scene after break in September. She managed earn more than HK$25 million (S$4.4 million) within three months of her return.
