ZOUKOUT is set to hit greater heights this year – literally.

Although the annual outdoor dance music festival organised by local nightspot Zouk has long been the highlight of revellers’ calendars, the 2009 edition features a unique new attraction – the SingTel Lookout, a colourful nine metre-tall structure similar to a beach lighthouse.

The three-storey structure promises a 360-degree panoramic view of Siloso Beach, where ZoukOut is taking place this year.

The Lookout is located directly opposite the entrance at Sapphire Pavilion, so it will allow party-goers the luxury of being able to chill out and catch a breather while still staying close to the action.

Space for 120

The structure itself can accommodate up to 120 people, with the space around it affording an additional 180 people.

Local events company Summer Productions took three days to build it.

And in line with SingTel’s 2009 campaign tagline of ‘Come to where the bright lights dance’, the structure has been fitted with multi-hued ambient strobe lights to add to the party atmosphere.

A SingTel spokesman told The New Paper: ‘Being the main sponsor of ZoukOut, we try to give our customers some benefits and create something memorable and special each year.

‘The previous year we had a pool, and this year, to tie in with the campaign theme, we decided to set up a lighthouse.’

Benefits for SingTel customers this year include a special AMPed demo section at the Lookout, where they can download music tracks for free.

In addition, they will enjoy a three-hour headstart when it comes to access to the Lookout.

From 8pm to 11pm during the party, SingTel customers will have unlimited access to the structure, with complimentary free flow of drinks provided.

The Lookout will be open to the public from 11pm.

The structure has been checked by engineers to make sure it is stable and safe.

Also, two security staff members will be stationed at every level of the Lookout to prevent overcrowding.

Wendy Tan, a 19-year-old student who will be attending ZoukOut, said: ‘It’s a pretty interesting and unique concept, because most of the places to chill out on Sentosa are cafes.

‘It’s a great idea to have an alternative place for us to take a breather from the party.

‘As it’s three storeys high, there should be a pretty good view. The fresh air won’t hurt too.’
