NEW MOON, OLD SOURPUSS LOOK
Stars glam up the red carpet… or not

Last year, Kristen Stewart promoted her hot vampire flick Twilight sporting a messy, matted shag which was singularly responsible for ruining her looks.

Alas, she still hasn’t found herself a hairstylist – or some hairspray at least – to fix the problem.

The 19-year-old actress just wrapped up her dizzying world tour for the Twilight sequel, New Moon, where she reprises her role as moody teenager Bella Swan who falls for her vampire schoolmate (reel-to-real boyfriend Robert Pattinson).

Seeing how grungy jeans, T-shirts and leather jackets are her signature look, I appreciate her attempting to clean up her act with the hottest couture specially for the red carpet. The key word here is, of course, ‘attempting’. The result? Just awkward.

Because even though the clothes have evolved, tragically, the hair hasn’t.

I have a severe problem with the frightful, greasy jet-black mullet she’s forced to live with now because of her role as rocker JoanJett in The Runaways.

But what’s worse than a perpetual bad hair day is poor posture and a don’t-care attitude.

Stewart is dating one of the sexiest men alive, her movie is No 1 and girls (and their mums) all over the world want to be her.

So why does she still insist on appearing like a sourpuss for the cameras?

1 The tour kicked off inauspiciously with a dishevelled disaster.

Bella may not have turned into vampire (yet), but ghastly Stewart looks every bit the part already at the Mexico photocall.

She was going for tomboy chic in a Diesel Black Gold sweater jacket, gun print D&G tank top, distressed cuffed denim jeans from Bebe complete with suspenders and burgundy brogues.

But all I can say is she completely murdered the boyfriend trend.

2 This ivory J Mendel strapless, draped chiffon cocktail dress that Stewart was probably wrestled into for the Paris photocall is elegant, ethereal, romantic and ultra-feminine.

Everything the scarily pale Stewart is not.

This explains why she looks so miserable and uncomfortable.

And it’s not because she just realised the shade washes her out.

3 She eschews her usual monochrome for loud neon colours courtesy of this wacky Proenza Schouler ensemble for the London premiere.

Blue, green and yellow plus stripes and tweed all in one outfit? It’s hurting my eyes.

4 At the Madrid fan event, she stepped out in a futuristic Balenciaga black and silver satin-stripped organza top and a petrol leather and rayon see-through panelled skirt, finishing off with black patent leather booties.

In theory, this should be perfect for her edgy style.

But the sheer peekaboo bits caused her to flash her black knickers and side cleavage – and not in a sexy way.

However, I have to give her kudos for temporarily taming the roadkill sitting on top of her head.
