When the call went out for the unattached to take part in The New Paper’s Dating Challenge – organised by the Social Development Network – singles e-mailed us in droves.

From this pool, these are the shortlisted 16.

Eight men, eight women, all excited to try something new.

You, the readers of The New Paper, will help us narrow the list to the final eight.

Along the way, these singles will be in for a fun ride.

It begins with a makeover and photoshoot, with experts from The Body Shop, Monsoon Hair House, Dorothy Perkins and Topman lending a stylish hand.

Then, they will be sent off on a series of activities designed to see if chemistry develops between any of them.

Who knows? Cupid might strike.

Here are the 16 singles.Remember, you have their fate in your hands.

‘I should be picked because I have everything that it takes to complete this challenge and this would be a great opportunity for me to meet and make new friends.’

11 Trina Lui, 31, senior sales representative

‘I should be picked as I would think this would rock my world and I would remember this for my entire life.’

12 Claressa Sim, 23, recruitment consultant

‘I am very independent and strong headed but at the same time, loving, understanding and forgiving. I am hard to understand, yet if you spend time knowing me, you would want to know me more.’

13 Amyria Maria, 26, junior secretary

‘I want to date anyone regardless of race and age, just anyone who feels comfortable with me. I am friendly and would like to make new friends.’

14 Mint , 23, polytechnic student, part-time tutor and pub waitress ‘I should be picked simply because I love company, and I return this favour to those who really make an effort to spend time with me.’

15 Carolyn Yap, 25, nurse

‘Meeting new people is something that I always look forward to!’

16 Kathy Xu, 27, teacher

Vote for the guy or girl you think will make the best date.

Remember though: Never judge a book by its cover.

Get a sense of their personality and trust your intuition.

Based on your votes, the final eight will emerge.

And you’ll be rewarded for helping out.

Regardless of who you vote for, you’ll be eligible to take part in a special draw to win $100 cash.

Five voters will be selected.
