THE Kuala Lumpur Hip Hop Festival 2008 is here.

To be held at Modesto’s in Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, it boasts the big names in the Asian hip hop fraternity, and promises to be the showcase of urban culture.
It is also a campaign against violence targeted at youths.
It features an array of guest artistes from the United States, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia.
These include Akil from Jurassic 5, Joe Flizzow from Kartelhitman, Phlowtron, McSamir, KLG Sqwad, 4Dub, Soul ID, Diplomats International Ft Vandal, Tech1, Rudi Twisted, Ras Muhamad and Phatnatrix, with Altimet as the host.
The party features a combination of indoor and outdoor performances. The fun will start at noon and end at 2am.
Breakdancing (B-boying), turntablism and rapping will be the order of the day.
At the hip hop bazaar, one can get the latest streetwear, the most blinding bling as well as accessories.
There will also be workshops for budding rappers, DJs, graffiti artistes and breakdancers. For extreme sport fans, a skate ramp will be built for them to bust their moves throughout the day.
Born within the Bronx, New York City, in the 1970s, hip hop is the soul communicator for inner-city youths, reflecting their cultures, lifestyles and in-grown musical talents.
Hip hop culture in Asia has grown significantly over the years and today, it holds its own. From Japan to Thailand, from China to Indonesia, it adds colour and life across all societies.
The festival seeks to educate and encourage the positives of this music genre and the lifestyle it promotes.
Highlighting the four core elements of hip hop music and culture – MC-ing, turntabling, breakdancing and graffiti art – there will be demonstrations and performances by performers, both professional and amateur as well as workshops throughout the day.
