Wow!

Last Monday’s long-awaited union of Hong Kong artistes Tony Leung and Carina Lau at the Uma Paro hilltop resort in the Himalayan kingdom must surely rank as the celebrity wedding of the year.

Only 100 guests were invited, amongst them the who’s who of the Hong Kong entertainment industry, including former actress Lin Ching-Hsia, retired songbird Faye Wong, director Wong Kar-Wai and veteran star Ti Lung.

Online pictures showed a ravishing Carina in her deep pink Gucci evening gown and flashing a diamond wedding ring, reportedly worth more than HK$10 million (RM4.2 million).
Another photo showed a watch gift from her sponsor. It’s a unique timepiece termed TLC Wedding Watch, the initials probably standing for Tender Loving Couple or their initials with “L” (for love) in the middle.

Every guest also received special necklaces blessed by the Karmapa Lama.

The wedding reportedly cost more than HK$30 million, with even a famous chef flown in from The Oriental Hotel Bangkok to prepare the banquet.

On the menu for the nine-course feast were lobsters, caviar, oysters and matsutake mushrooms.

Lau’s white Western wedding gown was by designer Vera Wang. Her flower girls included her best friend Faye Wong’s daughter Jingtong, 11, and singer Kenny Bee’s daughter Blythe, three.

Incidentally, all the wedding gifts will be donated to charity.

῕ OH no! On the way back to Hong Kong after the fairy tale wedding, Faye Wong’s husband Li Yapeng was reportedly involved in an altercation with the paparazzi at the airport in Bangkok when they disregarded his requests to them to stop taking pictures of his two-year-old daughter. How unfortunate!

῕ ZHANG Ziyi has gotten engaged to her billionaire boyfriend Vivi Nevo, the latter announcing the happy news in Sun Valley, Idaho, recently where the couple was attending a business conference.

The pair was first spotted together at a basketball game in January last year. Rumours swirled in March this year that they had exchanged rings but the actress refused to confirm anything.

According to earlier Press reports, Nevo was in China with Zhang last year when she was filming Chen Kaige’s Mei Lanfang. Apparently, he even visited her parents.

Nevo was previously linked with British supermodel Kate Moss and Brazilian model Jeisa Chiminazzo.

Beijing-born Zhang’s stellar movie credits include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs of a Geisha, Hero and House of Flying Daggers.

῕ GILLIAN Chung, the fallen “Twin” embroiled in the now-pass
Edison Chen sex pictures scandal, is now in the United States.

Accompanied by her personal assistant, Gillian is hopeful that she can revive her career, in Hollywood.

But Lady Luck has pretty much deserted the pretty Hong Kong singer-actress since her indiscretion.

After she had landed in America, online sources reported that she not only lost her luggage in the airport, she was also constantly hounded by the paparazzi.

Back in Hong Kong, Gillian’s other half, Charlene Choi, hopes that everyone will give Gillian another chance, expressing the wish that Twins will be able to work together again one day.

Other artistes have voiced their concerns over Gillian’s whereabouts, with Joey Yung saying she was “extremely worried” about her safety in America.

῕ KOREAN actor Lee Dong Gun, who is 28, wants to get hitched as soon as possible, preferably before his military service begins next year.

His motivation apparently stems from what he terms “an unfortunate incident”, referring to the untimely death of his younger brother in Sydney in March this year after a fight with some youths.

Hmm, wonder if the handsome actor has anyone in mind? Lee previously dated Han Ji-Hye, his co-star from My Boyfriend Is Type B but their highly publicised romance ended after three years.

῕ THE Rain juggernaut continues unabated. The singer who also wishes to be known as “Magic Feet” is not only selling CDs by the truckloads all over South Korea, he is also behind new K-pop groups and designing clothes. His latest venture – the toy business! His plan is to come up with toys based on popular online games.
